CD Audio disks use a different file system than does your computer so you cannot simply copy audio files from an audio CD to your hard drive. Ripping a CD, contrary to what the phrase implies, simply streams the file from the CD, converts the format and writes the file to disk so it can be read and manipulated by Windows.
You can import audio tracks from audio CD's and save them as Wav, MP3, WMA or OGG Vorbis files.
